Frequently Asked Questions

General

Is the spring running series really free for me and my friends? ▼

Yes, the spring running series is open to everyone. Neither a membership with the Trail Community Salzburg nor a Strava premium membership is required.

Who is behind the spring running series? ▼

The spring running series is organized by the trail running club "Trail Community Salzburg". To be more specific, our member Markus started the running series in 2023. This year, I - Andi - am allowed to host the series for the first time.

Which edition of the running series is this already? ▼

After 2023 and 2024, this is now the third edition of the running series.
The format remains unchanged with 3 runs à 2 weeks, but there are different running routes every year.

How can I get in touch with you? ▼

Running

Do I need to be registered on the club's website in order to participate in the event? ▼

Yes. You can find the registration opportunity on our website under "Calendar". [Link to registration](https://www.trail.community/event-details/fruhlingslaufserie-2025?lang=en)

You must be registered at the latest by the end of the two weeks to be able to participate in the corresponding route.

One registration is enough to register for all 3 routes.

What is the detailed process of evaluation? ▼

Since we're using Strava for evaluation, there's no secret to the process.

For the routes, a Strava segment is created and used for evaluation after 2 weeks. That's it!

Because of this, it's very important that your run appears in the segment, otherwise we unfortunately won't be able to evaluate it!

What do I need to set up so my route can be evaluated? ▼

Here's a small guide with pictures -> Strava How-To

What if there's a GPS error/inaccuracy during my run? ▼

Up to a certain degree, Strava catches these errors. However, depending on the severity, it can happen that Strava cannot assign the route to the segment or mark the run as invalid.

In the past, normal GPS errors were not a problem.

What if I start my watch too late or stop it too early? ▼

If the start or end of the segment is cut off, Strava will unfortunately not evaluate the run on that segment. Strava is unfortunately really strict about this, so please try to avoid it if possible.

What if I leave the route or take a shortcut? ▼

As with GPS inaccuracies, Strava has a certain tolerance for this as well. However, this tolerance is partly arbitrary. While small errors might still be accepted, if you leave the route or take a shortcut over a large part of the route, it's highly likely that your run won't be evaluated.

It's best to study the route thoroughly beforehand. Or even better, use navigation on your watch or phone if possible. The routes are not marked.

Are the routes marked? ▼

No. The routes are not marked on site. It would also be organizationally impossible to do so.

Therefore, it's important that you memorize the route well and ideally have the route with you in case you're unsure at a turning point. Taking a wrong turn can lead to your run not being evaluated. Unfortunately, this has already happened in the past.

How is cheating prevented? ▼

Strava offers an automatic detection of false activities or manipulated GPS recordings.

Apart from that, however, cheating cannot be completely prevented. We rely on your honesty 🙏.

Why Strava? Are you sponsored by Strava? ▼

No, we don't receive any sponsorship from Strava and are not affiliated with them in any way.

We opted for Strava because it provides a relatively straightforward way to create evaluations like this. There are similar segment-based evaluations for runs like the Gasteiner Infinite Trails trail run. The actual reason is that as a small club, we don't have the capacity to develop our own platform for evaluation.

Closing Event

When is the price ceremony event? ▼

The price ceremony event will take place on Thursday, May 15th in the evening (probably in Aigen).

What is the price ceremony event? ▼

Most of the time, the price ceremony event is a small celebration somewhere in Salzburg, to which everyone is invited.

Then there will be a small presentation and an awards ceremony for various categories.

Usually, there's also a short run beforehand. Let yourself be surprised!
